Most people try to hand out advice like candy on Halloween, but even on Halloween there’s a lot of bad candy out there.
One of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever received came from my mentor years ago. We would often have these impromptu meetings in his glass enclosed office that would start with me sitting down asking a quick question and it would quickly lead to a long conversation about life over some Blue Label.
“Always take a meeting with someone once, Marcus, and if you respect them twice.” Confused by this I responded with a well thought out “What?” He explained how over the course of his career he has always taken meetings with others that have asked for one and how it has often led to success not just in real estate but in all areas of his life.
Since coming home to Merced this is one piece of advice that I have ran with. Whether it be lenders, title, old colleagues, friends or other agents anywhere from Fresno to Stockton I have said “Yes” regardless of how I’m feeling. Just like my mentor this has led to many great things in and outside of my career in such a short period of time.
So, the next time someone asks you for a meeting instead of giving them a quick “No” work on saying “Yes” and see how it changes your life.
As always, in my business they say that a referral is the greatest compliment so please send any to info@myagentmarcus.com
